About Me: Exploring the World Solo
Hello! Let me introduce myself. I am Rainier and I'm the person behind Roaming with Rainier. I've always been really into traveling and photography.
During my lifetime I have visited many places in Europe and have also made some trips to the United States. As a kid, my parents took me to the most beautiful places in Europe and I have many memories from these trips.
Never had I thought about documenting anything. I just saw these trips as moments to calm down and relax. No school, no work, no colleagues. Just me, and the people I love, in a beautiful place in a beautiful country, far away from home. Just a nice little vacation.
But then the pandemic happened. With the world in a lockdown, I started to realize how much I missed traveling. I missed exploring, visiting places I haven’t been yet.
And then one day, it hit me. I have been to so many places, and even more places are on my bucket list. Why not document all my adventures and help others to find the most beautiful places to visit themselves.
So I decided to go find those most beautiful places in the world to visit, to write articles about all these places, but also reviews of all the equipment that I am using during my travel adventures.
I have partnered with GetYourGuide to provide you with the best way to book activities for your trip. For this I get a small commission that will help me to keep working on this website and provide you with content that, hopefully, will help you to pick your next destination.

Don't you get lonely when traveling alone?
No, I don't get lonely when traveling alone. I like being by myself. It helps me connect with people, especially locals. I love meeting people from different cultures when I travel. Being alone makes it easier for others to start a conversation with you. When I eat out or go to a bar alone, I have more chances to meet interesting people.
What inspired your love for travel?
When I was young, my parents took me on trips throughout Europe. At first, it was just like any other vacation. But as I got older, I started to see the value in experiencing other cultures. Now, I see travel as a way to immerse myself in different cultures.
How do you plan your trips?
I start by choosing a country. Then, I decide if I want to explore a city or go on a scenic road trip. With familiar countries, I go ahead and book flights and accommodations. When exploring new countries, group tours provide safety and guidance from experienced guides. From there, I plan activities to make the most of my visit.

I have a regular 9-5 job that supports my traveling. I also do side jobs like running this website and doing photography to make some extra money for my travels.

How has traveling changed you as a person?
Traveling has had a big impact on who I am as a person. I come from a country where life is comfortable. I never really had much to complain about. But through my travels, I've seen places where people face greater challenges. This has put my own life into perspective, and I have become more grateful for the life I can live. It has made me a more positive person. It also motivates me to help those who are less fortunate, as I am committed to making a positive difference.
What's your go-to travel gadget?
When it comes to travel essentials, my smartphone is definitely at the top of the list. I take it everywhere I go. I use it for navigation, purchasing tickets, and much more. I also like to keep a travel journal that I update every evening while enjoying a drink.
